FRANKLIN, Tenn. — Nissan said Wednesday morning that it is recalling close to 540,000 trucks and minivans throughout the world — a substantial portion of which are in the U.S. — to inspect and, if necessary, fix brake pedal pins and fuel-gauge components on the vehicles.

Nissan has especially emphasized that there have been no reports of accidents or injuries related to the issues.

Explaining the recall in more detail, Nissan noted that it basically boils down to two separate issues.
First, officials said that in three reported instances, brake pedal pins partially disengaged, and this kept the vehicle from being able to brake normally. According to Nissan, the core of the problem is a manufacturing error by the supplier. The automaker stressed that all units currently on sale do not have this issue. Potentially affected units are the 2008 through 2010 model-year Nissan Titan, Armada and Quest vehicles, as well as the 2008 through 2010 Infiniti QX45. Of the 204,785 units being recalled for brake-pin issues, 178,916 are in the U.S.
Meanwhile, the second issue deals with fuel-engage components and is unrelated to the brake-pin issue. Basically, the fuel gauges on higher-mileage units may not correctly show how much fuel is in the vehicle. So, the gauge may read that fuel level is greater than empty, but the vehicle may be completely out of gas. Potentially affected vehicles include 2005 through 2008 model-year Nissan Titan and Armada, as well as the Infiniti QX56 from the same model years. Nissan noted that 418,865 of the 472,118 potentially impacted units are in the U.S. "At Nissan, we're committed to the safety and satisfaction of our customers," said Kevin Martin, vice president of total customer satisfaction for Nissan North America. "We regret any inconveniences that our customers may experience as we take these precautions," he added. The automaker pointed out that starting this month, it will begin notifying owners of vehicles potentially affected by the brake-pedal pin issue as to when they can bring their rides to a Nissan or Infiniti dealership, where a quick, simple visual inspection will be completed. If need be, the store will make the repair. Nissan will also let owners of models with potential fuel-gauge issues know when they can bring their vehicle to the dealership to be fixed. Until that time, the automaker advises these customers to always keep at least a half tank of gas in their vehicles.

The automaker also urges Nissan owners to contact its consumer affairs department at 1-800-NISSAN 1 and Infiniti owners to call 1-800-662-6200. Or, they can also reach out to their local Nissan or Infiniti dealer. email your VIN # to us at mcorrera@racewaynissan or use the comments section and we will verify your vehicles eligibility for you.

20 years after the seamless integration of sex and automobiles, Infinity has thrown the dice into the world of oil burners. The new European FX (that stunning beauty in the pic) will be driven by a diesel engine developed with Renault, a 3.0-liter narrow-angle V6 which will develop 234-horsepower and 405 foot-pounds of torque. Quite impressive pulling power and knowing the great mileage manufactures are seeing will diesel power we are really hoping that American buyer start demanding they cross the pound so to speak and we get some of them diesels over here! When Nissan gave the Altima a make over for 2010, the freshen up seemed to be just enough and just right to keep Nissan’s best selling nameplate current and hip. Winding Road, one of my favorite online magazines thought so too! They weren’t totally thrilled with the performance of the 2.5 however they simply LOVE the 3.5! They said, “the Altima, particularly with six cylinders under the hood, is a good car to drive. Particularly with the styling and technology updates Nissan made for the 2010 model year, it has a lot to offer as a daily driver, if not as an outright enthusiast vehicle. For somebody who wants something practical (and very handsome, we might add), but still not at all wimpy, the Altima SR sedan is a clever contender.” I totally concur; read the rest here. ;)

The Nissan Titan soldiers on and is still an awesome truck. Although Nissan HAD agreed with Chrysler to jointly build the next generation of Titan the recent 'Carpocolypse' of an economy put that plan on permanent ice! Dont worry about the Titan losing ground though as its still got a lot to offer and as the ONLY Japanese built full size truck not suffereing from recalls its a great time to re-look at the Titan. Thats just what NissanInTheNews.com has done and they posted a very good review of the newest in the Titan line up, among the complements were;"Despite the fact that it sits atop a rugged and powerful chassis, the Nissan Titan delivers a relatively smooth ride that won’t jolt passenger and cargo. In addition to smoothness and crisp handling, the Titan’s 5.6-liter 315-horsepower V8 engine provides rapid acceleration, and also make it possible to tow up to 9,500 lbs." Nicely said, read the rest here, its all as good!

The LEAF is growing a fan base faster than a supermodel on Facebook as it gets closer to world domination, er I mean production. Today the world’s largest rental car company, Hertz Corp., announced plans to spread the LEAF through its worldwide rental fleets. Soon we will be able to rent a LEAF to blow through all our tourist destinations, making sure that we are environmentally friendly even in a foreign country! The Chicago Tribune totally missed the connection between Hertz and the LEAF being an electric vehicle although technically Hertz is a measurement of electrical frequency I’ll allow it! YOKOHAMA (Feb. 8, 2010) - Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. today announced that its eco-drive support system, Eco-mode function and Navigation-linked speed control, employed in Nissan's compact vehicles has won the ANRE (Agency for Natural Resources and Energy) Director-General's award in the 20th annual Energy Conservation Prize. Yeah, that’s the NAVI system that’s will slow the vehicle down if you are approaching a curve too fast and has the Smooth Acceleration Assist that will use computer calculations to speed up your car at the most ‘fuel efficient rate’. I haven’t driven one yet so I will save my cautious anticipations of self driven vehicles until its more widely released here in the States, but it is cool that Nissan is already winning awards with the technology! A pack of 2010 small pick ups were crashed up recently by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) and take a guess at which truck came out of the smashup with the highest ratings? Well, this is a Nissan site so theres no way  for a cliffhanger there! The Nissan Frontier was given the highest overall safety ratings and in addition to having really good front, side and rollover ratings the Frontiers roof strength is the highest measured! With the recent attention to vehicle safety its awesome to see our trucks again leading the way in passenger protection. See the rest of the field here.

In response to the recent and very serious concerns about vehicle safety, Nissan has issued an overview of the ways that Nissan has ensured that ‘unintended acceleration’ is not a cause for worry when driving a Nissan product. It address the three key areas of the issue other car makers are dealing with; the accelerator pedal, the start stop button and floor mats. Its worth taking a moment to click the picture, or the link here. Drive safe everyone
